Wieck Chamber Singers and Orchestra was founded by Harold and Jill Wieck in December of 2007. In May of 2008 a non-profit corporation was established with the state of Arizona, and in September 2008 Wieck Chamber Singers and Orchestra received 501-c-3 status.
THE FOUNDERS
Harold and Jill unite two unusual backgrounds that enable them to produce elite level concerts. Harold, during his 20's, worked in Hollywood as a grip for popular television series such as Gilligan's Island, The Ozzie and Harriet Show, and Mr. Ed. During the Viet Nam era he took a European discharge to work in Europe and the Middle East with a serviceman's organization where he was responsible for producing large scale events. Harold has an engineering degree from the University of California at Long Beach. For the last 30 years he has been in middle management in the aerospace industry.
Jill, a contralto, comes from a gifted musical family and one that focuses on sacred music. Her grandmother, the highly acclaimed lyric coloratura Florence Potter, performed extensively in Canada and later in the United States traveling on the Chautauqua Circuit of the 1920's. Her father, a tenor and trumpet player, was also a minister and later president of several theological graduate schools. Her mother is a retired professional organist, pianist and marimbist. Her sister, Joy Snider, California composer and performer of religious balads, has recorded two cds.
Jill studied voice at Bethel College in Minnesota, and opera repertoire at University of California at Long Beach.
WITH THE AUDIENCE IN MIND
Wieck Chamber Singers and Orchestra employs careful hiring practices and a keen eye for platform detail to every production. It is with their audiences in mind that they craft beautiful evenings of music that will thrill and inspire every age group. It is this organization's goal that the great music of the past will find a new audience in this generation, one that will span all musical appetites. By hiring truly gifted artists and placing them in a dramatic visual setting, the storied music of the past will come alive and thrill its hearers once again.
A FOCUS ON THE NEXT GENERATION
At each concert, one area high school student is selected for his or her unusual aptitude for their instrument and are intivited to play with the orchestra. They are paid for the evening at the same rate as our professional players, and it is the hope that this unique experience will encourage them to continue studying their instrument throughout university years and into adulthood. High School orchestra conductors are invited to submit candidates.
